So one week down on my pre op diet and I have to say, I'm really enjoying it! I must be mad but I'm actually finding it really liberating. As I predicted, I just needed to get into a rhythm and I'd be fine. So this is what my day looks like, more or less:
Breakfast - first thing in the morning I always drink hot water with lemon and fresh ginger, then I've been having my vitamins which is a glass of Barocca. Then I have a portion of fruit such as raspberries and blueberries followed a little later by a nice black coffee. Luckily I've never taken milk in my tea/coffee so I'm not missing that.
Mid morning I will have a cup of hot Bovril or vegetable bouillon if I'm feeling peckish.
Lunch consists of a dessert bowl of salad with some celery, green pepper, cucumber and cold chicken, often with half a pear and some tarragon leaves finished off with salt and pepper and a big squeeze of lemon. I usually then eat the rest of the pear and if I'm having sweet cravings I will eat a pot of Hartleys low sugar jelly.
Mid afternoon I usually eat a crunchy red apple and have a cup of herbal tea.
Dinner usually consists of either 2 soft boiled eggs over steamed asparagus (so yummy) or maybe a portion of cod fillet steamed in the microwave with some spices (Schwartz Cajun spice or Thai Seven spice for example) with veg such as broccoli, green beans and grated courgette cooked with the fish.
I will usually have a can of Diet Coke to drink and another jelly if I need it. Then before bed I have a cup of peppermint tea. Voila, my new routine!
So far I have lost 10 lbs so I'm really chuffed with that - even though I don't notice it! The diet sheet also recommends cutting out fizzy to prepare for after the operation when I may not tolerate drinking them. So far I'm still having 1 to 2 cans each day because if I need a sweet kick it really helps. Reckon I'll give up when I actually have to. Will have to go cold turkey on that one!
So one week in and I'm feeling light in myself and not really hungry. It's amazing what you can do when you have to! The only problem is in the poop department!! I wouldn't say I'm constipated but I'm not going every day which I usually do, more like every second day. I hate being constipated so it will be prune juice every day to keep me regular when I've finished this mad diet!
I also found this product online called Protein Water. It's essentially a sugar free juice drink but with 40g of protein per 500 ml bottle! I figure it will be a fantastic way to keep up my protein when I'm on liquids after the surgery. I can also use it to make up sachets of sugar free jelly to eat instead of just drinking it. It's not cheap though at almost £26 plus £2.95 shipping for a box of 12 bottles. I'll probably just treat myself to it after my op and then maybe after fills.
Well time to stop burning the midnight oil and go to sleep before I collapse in front of the computer. Oh, and anyway I need to pee again - a side effect of a diet rich in fluids!! Nite nite - yawn.....
